Meet the baker behind the cake...
Fakaalofa Lahi Atu,
I’m Tash. Owner, baker & decorator here at The Cake Co. I am Niuean / New Zealand and grew up here in Whangarei. I am married with two young kids and surrounded by very supportive family and friends who all pitch in to help my small business run.
A few years ago baking cakes was just about being a fun hobby for me, enjoying the art of baking and creating for friends and family.
I soon realised it was something I loved filling my time with and any birthday or occasion was a great excuse to practice making a cake and learning new skills.
Fast forward a year or so and I decided to resign from my job to take on baking full time. It provided great flexibility for my family and I could spend more time with my daughter who was 2 years old at the time.
I had to get my home kitchen council registered, and set up the beginnings of a business. I picked a name, made a logo and created social media pages. From there, and through word of mouth, friends, family and suppliers sharing my work - I slowly began to build a following and customer base.
The Cake Co. is now 3 years old and it keeps me super busy! I absolutely love it. I make cakes for many occasions, including birthdays, baby showers, gender reveals, weddings and more. I like my cakes to be aesthetically pleasing, simplistic yet beautiful and fun. No two cakes are the same, they are handmade from scratch specifically for the customer.
I love creating for my customers and knowing that my cakes are a part of their special occasions. I am always grateful for customers who return to me for different occasions and call me ‘their cake maker’.
